Work holding keeps a part fixed and accurately located while it's being cut, so the cutting tool does the work rather than the part moving under it. The right choice depends on the machine (mill vs lathe), the part shape, and how repeatable the setup needs to be.
Vices: the standard workholding method on a milling machine, clamping a part between fixed and moving jaws. Jaw width and clamping force need to match the part size and the cutting forces involved.
Manual and Power Chucks: hold round or symmetrical parts on a lathe. Manual chucks are hand-tightened with a chuck key; power chucks use pneumatic or hydraulic actuation for faster, more consistent clamping in production runs.
Soft Jaws: machined in-house to the exact profile of the workpiece, giving more even clamping pressure and better concentricity than standard hard jaws — particularly useful on irregular or thin-walled parts.
Clamping Kits: T-bolts, step blocks, clamps and studs for bolting a workpiece or fixture directly to a mill table or faceplate.
Revolving (Live) Centres: support the free end of a workpiece on a lathe, rotating with the part to eliminate the friction and heat a fixed centre would generate.
Parallels: hardened and ground bar sets used to raise and level a workpiece inside a vice or fixture to a consistent height.
