What Is Indexable Milling?
Indexable milling uses inserts clamped into a holder rather than a solid cutter — when an edge wears, you rotate the insert to a fresh edge or replace it, instead of replacing or regrinding the whole tool. That makes it more economical than solid milling for most production work, particularly face milling, shoulder milling and slotting in aluminium, steel and titanium.
The insert codes below (OFHX, ONHX, ONKX, SEHW, SFHX, SNHU, SNHX, SNKU, SEHT, SNKX) are Palbit geometries. The coloured P / M / K / S / N boxes on each are the ISO material group the insert is suited to: P for steels, M for stainless, K for cast iron, S for superalloys and titanium, N for aluminium and other non-ferrous metals. Match the box to your material before choosing a geometry.
