What Is Indexable Milling?
Indexable face mills use replaceable carbide inserts instead of a single ground edge. When an edge wears, you rotate or swap the insert rather than replacing the whole cutter, which keeps costs down on larger diameters and lets you match the insert grade to the material: P for steel, M for stainless, K for cast iron, N for aluminium and non-ferrous, S for heat-resistant superalloys.
Protool stocks Palbit and Vortex face mill bodies, with Palbit indexable inserts across the SEHW/SEHT, SFHX/OFHX, SNHU/SNKU, SNHX/SNKX and ONHX/ONKX ranges in P, M, K, N and S grades. Use the colour-coded material boxes on each cutter below to find the right insert for your job, or browse all face mill bodies and all face mill inserts using the buttons above.
