A countersink cuts a tapered recess so a countersunk screw head sits flush with the surface; a counterbore cuts a flat-bottomed recess for a socket-head or cap screw. Which one you need comes down to the screw head, not the material.
Toolex HSS-E countersinks cover single and multi-flute designs from 30° to 120°, TiN-coated and uncoated, metric and imperial. Toolex HSS-E counterbores are piloted, 180° flat-bottom, in metric sizes from M1.6 up.
Carmex solid carbide countersinks — sold as chamfering end mills — come in 60° and 90°, K20 and CR3 coated, 5mm to 10mm, for harder materials and higher cutting speeds than HSS-E.
