HSS (High-Speed Steel) Drills
High-speed steel drills work in metal, plastic and wood, and hold up well under normal-duty drilling. They're the standard choice for general workshop use, where the material isn't especially hard or abrasive.
HSS-E (High-Speed Steel Cobalt) Drills
HSS-E drills contain 5–8% cobalt, which raises hardness and heat resistance over plain HSS. That makes them the better choice for stainless steel, titanium and high-strength alloys, where they hold an edge longer between changes.
Powder Metal Drills
Powder metal drills are made by a powder metallurgy process that gives a finer, more even grain structure than conventional HSS. This adds strength and wear resistance, which matters most in deep-hole drilling and high-volume production runs.
