Threading tools cut, form or repair a thread, and the right one depends on whether you're making a new thread, finishing one to size, or fixing a damaged one.
Thread Milling: a thread mill cuts internal or external threads by helical interpolation on a CNC machine — one tool can cut multiple thread sizes by adjusting the interpolation radius, and because it doesn't plunge straight in like a tap, breakage risk in blind holes is much lower.
Thread Turning: thread turning inserts cut threads on a lathe using a dedicated toolholder, in full profile, partial profile or adjustable profile styles to suit ISO metric, UN, BSP and other thread forms.
Taps & Dies: taps cut internal threads, dies cut external threads. Heli coil taps cut the oversize thread needed for a helical thread insert repair; standard hand and machine taps cover spiral point, spiral flute and straight flute geometries for through-holes, blind holes and interrupted cuts.
Thread Repair: wire thread inserts (V-coil) restore a damaged or stripped thread to its original size, and thread repair kits bundle the tap, insert and installation tool needed for a specific thread size.
