Thread Repair Kits

A thread repair kit gives you everything needed to fix a stripped or damaged tapped hole: the wire insert that provides the new thread, the oversize tap that cuts the receiving bore, and the installation tool that drives the insert in and breaks the tang off flush. The right kit for the thread size you’re repairing makes this a few minutes of workshop work rather than a scrap-or-weld decision.

We stock thread repair kits in metric sizes from M4 through M24 and BSP thread forms, with options for standard and deep inserts depending on how much thread engagement you need to restore. Kits are available for both through-hole and blind-hole repairs.

When do you need a thread repair kit?

Thread repair is the right call when a tapped hole has stripped beyond what a tap can clean up — common causes are overtorquing a fastener in aluminium or cast iron, corrosion in a steel thread, or physical damage to the thread form. The wire insert goes into a slightly larger bore and provides a hardened steel thread in what was previously a softer parent material, usually producing a joint stronger than the original. If only the surface threads are damaged, a thread chaser may be enough; if the thread is stripped through its depth, a repair kit is the correct fix.
