This range covers the hand files stocked for engineering and workshop use, grouped by shape and cut, along with the handles that fit them.
Flat Taper Files: Taper in both width and thickness from tang to tip. Use them on flat surfaces, edges and slots where you need a straight, even cut along the full length of the file.
Hand Files: Parallel-edged - constant width along their length - with one safe (uncut) edge. That safe edge lets you file up against a shoulder or into a corner without marking the adjoining face, which is why hand files are the standard choice for general bench filing and finishing.
1/2 Round Files: One flat face and one curved face on the same file. That combination covers flat work and internal curves without swapping tools - useful for opening out holes, easing radii and finishing contoured parts.
Round Files: Fully cylindrical, tapering towards the tip. Built for round or part-round work: enlarging drilled holes, cleaning up slots, and deburring circular openings.
Square Files: Four flat faces at right angles to each other. Use them to open out square or rectangular holes, true up internal corners, and cut keyways where the sides need to stay parallel.
Three Square Files: Triangular in section, with sharp edges at roughly 60 degrees. They reach acute internal angles that flat or round files can't get into, and they're the usual pick for sharpening saw teeth and cutting slots under 90 degrees.
Knife Files: A wedge-shaped cross-section - one edge thin like a blade, tapering back to a flat spine. Built for narrow slots and acute-angle grooves, including saw-tooth work and die clearances.
Needle Files: Small-scale versions of the shapes above - round, square, flat, triangular and more - sized for jewellery work, mould and die finishing, and any job too fine for a full-size file.
Safety Wooden File Handles: Fit onto the file tang and give a secure grip, with a guard collar that stops your hand sliding forward onto the tang if the file catches. Match handle size to file length for the best balance.
