Ball Specifications

Choose the probe ball material and diameter. Ruby is the standard for most applications.

Ruby
Standard. Best for steel, cast iron, alloys. 99% aluminium oxide.
Silicon Nitride
For aluminium & non-ferrous. Lower density, no material pickup.
Zirconia
Tougher than ruby. Recommended for stainless steel scanning.
Tungsten Carbide
Extreme hardness. Abrasive surfaces and pointed-tip applications.
Diamond
Maximum hardness. Very hard or highly abrasive workpieces.

Stem Specifications

The stem connects the ball to the thread. Use the shortest and most rigid stem possible for best accuracy.

Stainless Steel
Standard material. Best rigidity for short to medium length styli.
Titanium
40% lighter than steel. Preferred for longer styli where deflection matters.
Carbon Fibre
Maximum stiffness-to-weight. Long extensions and multi-probe clusters.
Ceramic
Thermally stable and non-conductive. High-temp or EMI environments.
Ruby Ceramic
Specialist composite for demanding scanning applications.
