Toolex was founded in Hertford in 1967 with a stocked range of incremental Swiss reamers — unique in the UK at the time. Over the following decades, Toolex expanded its range by adding specialist tooling from renowned European suppliers, and incorporated its own grinding facilities to offer an ever-wider size range.
A move in 1990 to a purpose-built factory in Wincanton, Somerset, combined with CNC investment, allowed the business to continue growing. Today, Toolex — part of Wida Group Limited — maintains its unrivalled reputation for same-day despatch, Swiss precision, and personal service to the engineering industry.

Toolex has been supplying precision reamers to the UK engineering industry since 1967, building an unrivalled reputation for accuracy, stock depth and same-day despatch. Toolex straight shank reamers are available in HSS (M2), HSS-E (M35 cobalt) and solid carbide, supplied in both standard and long series lengths. All Toolex machine reamers are available in 1/100th millimetre increments — a unique feature that makes Toolex the go-to source when an exact non-standard size is required. Straight shank reamers are used for finishing previously drilled or bored holes to a precise diameter and tolerance, typically achieving H5, H6 or H7 bore tolerances with excellent surface finish. Spiral flute reamers are particularly suited to interrupted cuts and blind holes, providing smooth chip evacuation and reduced chatter.
Toolex taper shank reamers are supplied with Morse taper shanks (MT1 through MT5) for direct mounting in drilling machines and machining centres, available in standard and long series lengths to BS 328 specification. HSS taper shank reamers cover the full size range for general engineering and production work, while carbide-tipped versions are available for harder and more abrasive materials. Taper shank machine reamers provide excellent rigidity and repeatability for high-volume production reaming operations.
Toolex die maker reamers are designed for close-tolerance toolroom and die-making applications, where the very highest levels of accuracy and finish are required. Available in HSS and carbide grades, die maker reamers are ground to tight tolerances for use in jigs, fixtures, press tools and precision die sets. Toolex taper pin reamers are used for finishing tapered holes to accept standard taper pins, providing a secure and repeatable location for assembled components — available in both imperial (1:48 taper) and metric series to DIN 258.
