Precision that performs under pressure

From the pitlane to the operating theatre — the ESRB712 is chosen wherever tolerance, surface finish and repeatable accuracy define the difference between acceptable and exceptional.

🏎
Motorsport & F1

Race-specification machining

Suspension uprights, gearbox casings, carbon-fibre backing tools and titanium fastener features — F1 teams demand the sub-micron accuracy the ESRB712 was designed to deliver, every lap.

Aerospace

Structural & engine components

Hard alloy blisk cavities, turbine blade root forms, landing-gear housings — the deep-rib geometry and long-neck range access features that shorter tools simply cannot reach.

Medical Devices

Implant & instrument precision

Surgical implants, orthopaedic tooling and instrument bodies require surface finishes that eliminate post-process polishing. The ±0.005mm ball-tip tolerance makes that possible in a single operation.

Mould & Die

Deep-cavity mould work

The tool this series was designed for: high-hardness mould steel, deep narrow ribs, freeform 3D surfaces. The 13° neck relief and wide neck-length selection give access others can't match.

Three reasons engineers specify ESTAR

Every aspect of the ESRB712 was engineered to extend tool life, improve surface finish and reduce cycle time in the hardest applications.

Nano AlTiN Coating

A physical vapour deposition (PVD) nano-layer AlTiN coating combines exceptional hardness with heat resistance and adhesion strength. It maintains a sharp cutting edge in hardened materials where uncoated tools fail rapidly — giving measurably longer tool life and better part-to-part consistency.

PVD · AlTiN · Nano-layer

Sub-micron Carbide Substrate

The fine-grain sub-micron carbide blank provides the hardness and wear resistance base that makes the coating work. Tighter grain structure means a more consistent edge geometry — critical when that edge is 0.1mm across and forming a surface that cannot be re-machined.

Long-Neck Rib Geometry

The 13° neck relief angle and extensive neck-length selection are the defining design features of the ESRB712. Deep ribs, narrow slots, and undercut features are accessible without the tool body contacting the workpiece wall — while maintaining the rigidity needed to hold ±0.005mm ball-tip tolerance.

Built for the most demanding work your machine can produce.

The Widin ESTAR ESRB712 is a 2-flute solid carbide ball nose end mill engineered specifically for rib and deep-groove machining in hardened workpieces. Every dimensional parameter — from the sub-micron carbide blank to the final coating layer — is optimised for the conditions found in high-hardness mould, die, motorsport and aerospace work.

The ±0.005mm ball-tip tolerance isn't a nominal figure — it's a catalogue standard held across the full range, giving you the confidence to programme directly to nominal without leaving extra stock for post-processing.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before you order.

Rib processing involves machining narrow, deep features — typically in hardened mould steel — where the cutting tool must enter the feature without the body or shank contacting the workpiece walls. The ESRB712 addresses this with a 13° neck relief angle and an extensive selection of neck lengths, allowing deep slot access while maintaining the rigidity needed to hold ±0.005mm ball-tip accuracy.
Widin tools — including the ESRB712 range — have been purchased and used by precision engineering suppliers working within the F1 and wider motorsport supply chain. The combination of tight ball-tip tolerance, hardened-material capability (to HRc 60), and micro-diameter availability makes this tool relevant anywhere sub-micron accuracy and surface finish are required.
As a general rule, use the shortest neck length that allows clearance — longer necks reduce rigidity, which can affect surface finish and tool life. Measure your required depth-of-cut, add at least 1× diameter of clearance above the feature, and select the next available length up from that figure. If you're unsure, call us on 01732 887334.
The S6 suffix denotes a 6mm shank diameter variant, available on selected cutting diameters where a larger shank improves rigidity — particularly useful on longer neck versions.
All ESRB712 tools have standard cylindrical shanks (4mm standard, 6mm on S6 variants) — compatible with ER collet chucks, hydraulic chucks or shrink-fit holders. For hardened-material rib work we recommend hydraulic or shrink-fit for minimum runout.
Yes — call us on 01732 887334 (Mon–Thurs 8:30–17:30, Fri 8:30–16:30) and our applications team can provide recommended starting parameters for your material, machine and depth of cut.
