Turn or Mill?
Thread turning suits threads on a lathe. Thread milling cuts the thread on a machining centre, and one thread mill covers many diameters in the same pitch.

Read the thread off the drawing: ISO metric, UN, Whitworth, BSPT, NPT, trapez or another form.

Internal or External
Choose internal or external inserts. For thread mills, check the series: some cut internal threads only.

Carmex Tools: Common Questions
Thread turning or thread milling?
Thread turning cuts the thread on a lathe with a single-point insert. Thread milling cuts it on a machining centre with a rotating tool, and one thread mill can cut any diameter above its own size in the same pitch.

What are Carmex Tiny Tools?
Tiny Tools are small solid carbide inserts for boring, grooving, profiling and threading in very small bores. They clamp into Tiny Tool holders.
Which Carmex thread mill grades do you stock?
Most of our Carmex solid carbide thread mills are in the core grades MT7, MT8 and MT11. Check the grade on each product.
